Alan begins by updating us on his work amongst Ukrainians in Ipswich (see first two slides).
He points out that almost all of chapter 16 of Luke’s gospel is about money. Jesus considered it important -why? Because it is hard to follow Christ when you have a lot of money and possessions, not because it is wrong to own them, but because there is a great temptation to hold onto them and to increase them. He reminds us of Paul’s letter to Timothy where he says “the love of money is the root of all evil”, so it is our attitude to money that is important and can drive us away from God, as in Matthew’s gospel “you cannot serve God and money”. We need to pray for wealthy Christians and look into our own attitudes to money and possessions.
