Protection from Fiery Darts - Ephesians 6:10-20
By Edith Peck on 29 October 2023 at Service in FAYAP and on Zoom with Communion
The recording begins with Ephesians 6:10-20 being read, then Edith reminds us that Paul wrote this letter from house arrest, chained to a Roman soldier, so he knew the armour well, also as a Roman citizen. See image.
She points out it is about defending ourselves, and the only offensive item is the sword of the Spirit and that is the Word of God (the power to say the right word at the right time). She goes through each item and explains what it means for us, then gives us three points about the soldier himself:
1. Resources – the Roman army was the best equipped, provided for and paid. God gives us excellent resources.
2. Discipline – fitness and preparedness were a key part of being a Roman soldier, and so must we know our bible, pray and meet together.
3. Community – Roman soldiers lived together and protected each other in battle (there was no covering for his back, as the soldier behind provided that) and we as Christians should be known for our comradeship, love and unity.
She finally reminds us we are battling the spiritual powers of the evil one, as well as our own self-centredness.
