Forgiveness, Reconciliation and Peace - Matthew 5:23-26
By Alex Cameron on 03 November 2024 at Cafe Service on Zoom
Alex Cameron is the director of the small charity, Christian International Peace Service (CHIPS), which has grass-roots peace-building projects in Brixton and Northern Ghana (and which this church supports). She gives a background to the principles with which CHIPS works and explains that by saying it ‘Takes sides, both sides’, rather than staying neutral, it is stating that the CHIPS staff seek to understand both peoples’ stories.
Alex gives those assembled a case study and some of the stages showing how the conflict escalated, based on John Paul Lederach’s 7 stages of conflict. There is discussion, with various voices giving responses and Alex interspersing with illustrations and strategies from CHIPS projects and elsewhere. She also suggests, from Matthew 5, that it is best to reconcile before anyone else gets involved and, most importantly as Christians, to forgive.
