God is Able - Hebrews 7:20-28
By Peter Marett on 22 November 2020 at Zoom Service with Communion
Peter explains what these verses mean in its context:
– for Jews who believed Jesus to be the Messiah, to avoid the temptation of relying on the religion that had sustained them so far, which was safer than being a follower of Christ
and also for us,
– to understand that religion (doing things to please God and gain eternal life) is hopeless, as none of us can keep the rules to gain this
… but that God has done all that is needed to ensure our relationship with Him on earth now, but also in the world to come, by sending Christ to save us from the consequences of our sin.
Near the end of his talk, Peter refers to Ephesians 2:6 ‘God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus’
and to the song, which was played after this in the service, ‘You Raise Me Up’.
