On the Beach - John 21:15-end
By Ken Smith on 09 August 2026 at Morning Service on Zoom with Communion
Ken takes us to the beach on the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus, for the second time, speaks from the shore to tell Simon Peter and friends to cast their nets to the other side, after fishing all night and catching nothing. When they reel in a large haul, they know it is Jesus.
This is where Jesus restores Simon Peter, showing trust in him to do great things for God in the future, despite his past denials of Jesus. Ken looks at the Greek words for love used by both Jesus and Peter, and points out that Jesus didn’t make Peter feel even more guilty than he already felt, which is how He deals with us, when He knows our hearts are remorseful. By being given a fresh challenge, Peter feels encouraged to do better as he follows God.
