Prayer of Repentance - Psalm 51
By Alan Scurrell on 25 January 2026 at Morning Service on Zoom with Communion
Alan begins by asking ‘How are you?’ -we often say we are OK, even when we’re not! He then explores the question, ‘Is it OK to not be OK?’, by looking at King David after his adultery and murder, who was definitely not OK, and needed calling out by Nathan the prophet. Then David repented -changed his mind- and asked God’s forgiveness. This is a model for us.
Despite those terrible sins, David was still described as ‘a man after God’s own heart’. So, going our own way in life and perhaps hurting other people and God, doesn’t mean God will never love us again -we need to repent, change in thinking and actions and He promises to forgive us. Hallelujah!
